Wines from set geographical appellations. Similar toAOC in France. Wines can be both DAC and fall into a Qualitätswein category as long it isapproved
What are the Classifications of Austrian Sekt
Klassik, Reserve, Grosse Reserve, Hauersekt
What is Klassik sekt
Charmat and traditional methods allowed, any sweetness level, aged aminimum 9 months on the lees
What is Reserve Sekt
Traditional method only, Brut, Extra Brut, and Brut Nature only, aged a minimum 18 months on the lees
What is Grosse Reserve Sekt
Traditional method only, Brut, Extra Brut, and Brut Nature only, aged a minimum of 30 months on the lees
What is Hauersekt
“Grower” sekt- tirage, disgorgement, and Chapitalization performed by the grape grower. Must list village, vineyard (if applicable), vintage, and grape variety.
What does Reid mean
“Top site” used to indicate the village of production for single vineyards
What does Vinea Wachau mean
Grower organization that set standards in the region and a list of tenets for natural winemaking called the Codex Wachau.
What does Erste Lage mean
Single vineyard wines. Need to follow DAC rules and regulations
