Arterial thrombosis and Anti-platelets Flashcards
What agents are released from platelets that leads to aggregation of platelets?
ADP; thromboxane A2
How do platelets bind to subendothelial collagen?
glycoprotein Ib and vWF
How do platelets attach to each other?
GPIIBIIIa and fibrinogen
What is the MOA of asprin?
inhibits COX whcih is necessary to produce thromboxane A2
How is thromboxane A2 synthesised?
arachiodonic acid–PGs– TXA2
What are the SE of aspirin?
bleeding; Gi ulceration; bronchospasm
What is the action of clopidogrel and prasugrel?
ADP receptor antagonists
What is the action of dipyridamole?
phosphodiesterase inhibitor- reduced cAMP (second messenger in platelet activation)
What is the action of abciximab?
inhibt aggregation by inhibiting GP IIB/IIIa
Why should anti-platelets be stopped 7 days before surgery?
tend to affect platelet function for their 7-10 day life span
