all positioning, exposures etc Flashcards
what is an extremity
parts of the body that branches off from the trunk of the body
(hands, wrist, feet, ankle, leg, thigh, forearm humerus or upper arm, hip, shoulder or all of these areas.)
what is the 15% rule
when the kVp is increased by 15%, the mAs needs to be increased by a factor of 2.
when the kVp is increased by 15% the mAs needs to be multiplied by 0.5 (i.e. divided by 2).
whats the difference between a caudal and a cranial angulation?
- caudal = angled down towards the feet
- cranial = angled up towards the head
what is scleroderma
wasting and calcification of soft tissue at finger pulp
- can cause raynauds disease (lack of blood flow to fingers)
what is mallet finger and what causes this
- cant straighten the end of ur finger, looks like a hook (aka jins fingers)
- a chip fracture on the base of the dorsal aspect of distal phalanx is linked with avulsion of the insertion of the extensor digitorum tendon,
how can you differentiate between an unfused apophysis and a fracture on the base of the 5th metatarsal bone
- apophysis is parallel to shaft of bone (found only in kids)
- fracture is transverse to shade of bone
ho
how can you tell the difference between an apophysis and a fracture in the base of the 5th metatarsal?
- apophysis runs parallel to the shaft of the 5th metatarsal and is usually found in kids
- fracture runs transverse to the shaft
what is a mallet finger
when there is an avulsion fracture in the distal phalange that interacts with the extensor digitorsum tendon resulting in the inability to fully extend the finger straight (aka jin fingers)
