A
can be managed as outpatient with regular salbulamol inhaler via spacer
e.g. 4-6puffs every 4hrs

Mx mod-severe: stepwise approach
A
- salbutamol inhaler via spacer, 10puff/2hrs
- nebulised salbutamol/ipratropium bromide
- oral prednisolone
- IV hydrocortisone
- IV magnesium sulphate
- IV salbutamol
- IV aminophyline

when to consider discharge
A
child well on 6puffs every 4hrs of salbutamol

normal PaCO2 during asthma attack

life threatening - indicative of poor resp effort
