A1. CIIH: Reciprocity And Interactional Synchrony Flashcards
1
Q
Attachment
A
Strong reciprocal emotional bond between infant and primary caregiver
2
Q
Reciprocal
A
- both ways
- success = child must bond with mother, and mother must bond with child
- Brazelton et al. (children attempt to copy caregiver at as young as 2)
- assists in child communication development, and cues for baby’s needs
3
Q
Interactional Synchrony
A
- infant and primary caregiver become synchronised in interactions
- Brazelton et al. : infants can copy displayed distinctive facial expressions or gestures
- interactions vary based on parents rhythm, pitch, volume, etc. of speech
- led to better communication when child was older
4
Q
+ Eval: Inter-rater reliability
A
- Brazelton et al: controlled observations; filmed interactions from several angles
- allows for valid conclusions to be drawn
- Independant observers can watch tapes and compare findings
5
Q
- Eval: Young Children and Intention
A
- unable to establish if actions of babies are meaningful, especially as they have little/no motor coordination
- Bremmer: ‘behaviour response vs understanding’ : just because act appears reciprocal, doesn’t mean child understands purpose of either reciprocity or intersectional synchrony
