9.2 Flashcards
What is simple diffusion?
Uncharged nonpolar molecules can leave the membrane without energy.
What is facilitated diffusion?
Charged or polar molecules can leave membrane through a protein also needing no energy.
What is hypertonic osmosis?
High % of solute low % of water
What is hypotonic osmosis?
high % of water, low % of solute
What is isotonic osmosis?
even % of solute and water
What is active transport?
Moving molecules across membrane low to high using ATP.
What is endocytosis?
large molecules enter cell using vesicles
What is exocytosis?
larger molecules leaving cell using vesicles.
What are properties and structures of phospholipids?
Hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts. Make up phospholipid bilayer.
What are parts of the cell membrane?
Channel, enzyme, receptor, antigen, adhesion, attached to cytoskeleton
