9.1 Flashcards
Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes
Eukaryotes are more complex with more organelles. These are plant and animal cells. Prokaryotes are less complex and are bacterial cells.
Structures of bacteria vs plants vs animals
Animals and plants have the average eukaryote organelles while animals have lysosomes and plants have cell walls and chloroplast. Bacteria cells don’t have organelles and are on structure.
What structures do most cells have?
Most cells have cell membrane, ribosomes, cytoplasm and DNA
Pros of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotic cells have many structures to serve many tasks. This leads to a complex system with many parts. Prokaryotic cells are simpler and have less structures.
How do cells get rid of waste?
They remove it from the cell membrane
How do cells serve as a container?
Animal cells and some bacteria cells have just a cell membrane but plant and some bacteria cells have a cell wall as well.
How do cells have a set of instructions?
They use DNA to code for proteins and structures.
How do cells read instructions?
They translate the DNA by creating RNA
How do cells get and use energy?
They break down sugars into ATP. Plants can get energy via photosynthesis if they have chloroplast.
What organelles are used in distributing proteins?
The Golgi, ER, vesicles,
