4.2 Flashcards
this class SUCKS
What is nitrogen fixation?
Nitrogen from the atmosphere coming into the soil.
What is nitrification?
Ammonia becoming nitrate.
What is denitrification?
Nitrate becoming nitrogen and returning to the atmosphere.
What is consumed in photosynthesis?
Water, air and light.
What is created in photosynthesis?
Glucose and oxygen.
What is consumed in cellular respiration?
Glucose and oxygen.
What is created in cellular respiration?
Water, oxygen, and energy.
What performs photosynthesis?
Producers.
What performs cellular respiration?
Nearly all living things.
How do humans affect carbon and nitrogen cycles?
Pollution creates more carbon in the atmosphere and excess fertilizer disrupts aquatic ecosystems.
How does BTB work?
The more CO2, the yellower the solution will appear.
How do energy and carbon flow through a food chain?
They both are brought into producers via photosynthesis. When the producer is eaten the herbivore gets some of the energy and carbon and the consumer gets some of the herbivore’s carbon and energy when it eats. At each level energy is removed as heat and carbon is removed from cellular respiration.
What color will a BTB indicator be in a vial in the dark with plants and snails?
Yellow
What color will a BTB indicator be in a vial in the light with plants and snails?

What color will a BTB indicator be in a vial in the dark with just snails?
