10.1 Flashcards
Order of the cell cycle?
gap 1, synthesis, gap 2, mitosis, repeat or g0
What occurs at each stage?
growth, DNA replication, more growth, cell splitting, repeat or end cell cycle.
What do stimulatory proteins do?
Move the stages of the cell cycle along.
What do inhibitory proteins do?
Stop the cell cycle from progressing if something is wrong.
Examples of stimulatory proteins.
CDK, Cyclin, growth factors
an example of an inhibitory protein
p53
What are proto-oncogens?
Proto-oncogenes code for inhibitory proteins.
What are tumor suppressor genes?
Tumor suppressor genes code for inhibitors
What happens if proto-oncogenes mutate?
They become oncogenes and can be switched permanently on.
What happens if 1 tumor suppression gene mutates?
You will be fine, the other gene will supress.
