8.1 Flashcards
What was the procedure for the Griffith Experiment?
Give mouse deadly strain, give mouse weak strain, give mouse heat killed deadly strain, and give mouse heat killed and weak strains.
What was the procedure for Avery, McLeod, and McCarty’s experiment?
Use the bacteria that killed the mice in Griffith’s experiment and combine it with different treatments to kill proteins, DNA, or RNA and test if transformation happens.
What was the procedure for Hershey and Chase’s experiment?
Infect bacteria with phosphorus or sulfur. If phosphorus was in the shell then DNA was the answer. If the sulfur was found in the shell then it was proteins.
What are the parts of a nucleotide?
sugar, base, phosphate
What is the structure of DNA?
double helix
What is similar and different about DNA and RNA?
Similar: phosphate, acg different: sugar, t/u
If g is 35%, what is t?
Approximately 25%
If C is 48%, what is A?
Approximately 2%
