8.4 Flashcards
What is a codon?
The three bases that code for an amino acid.
What is an anticodon?
The bases that pair with a codon to bond the amino acid.
What is translation?
The process of creating a polypeptide via translating an mRNA strand.
What is a start codon?
AUG, where translation begins.
What is a stop codon?
Where translation ends.
What is a mutation?
Change in DNA due to radiation, transcription, chemicals or infection.
What does mRNA do?
Lists order that amino acids combine in
What does tRNA do?
bonds the amino acid to mRNA
What does rRNA do?
Bind the tRNA and mRNA
What is a point mutation?
One base is changed
What is a silent mutation?
Base is different, amino acid is the same.
What is a misense mutation?
Mutation changes amino acid
What is a nonsense mutation?
Mutation causes premature stop.
What is a frameshift mutation?
When a mutation adds or removes bases which messes up the rest of the sequence.
