4.3 Flashcards
What are greenhouse gases?
Gases in the atmosphere that absorb and/or reflect infrared light to heat the planet.
What are positive feedback loops?
X happens to Y which positively affects X.
What are negative feedback loops?
X happens to Y which negatively affects X.
What is the greenhouse effect?
Heat is absorbed and released by greenhouse gases, warming the Earth.
What do ice cores tell us about CO2 and temperatures from previous years?
Ice cores can reveal how high CO2 levels were and how high the temperature was at different times.
Why is the greenhouse effect important?
Without it, the Earth would be much colder.
Is helium a greenhouse gas?
Nah
Is CO2 a greenhouse gas?
Yeah
Is O2 a greenhouse gas?
No
How have humans affected the greenhouse effect?
Humans have increased the levels of greenhouse gases which increased the greenhouse effect.
Is CH4 (Methane) a greenhouse gas?
Yep
Is H2O a greenhouse gas?
Yes
