9.1 Study Guide Flashcards
What is the main difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells?
Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and lots of organelles, while prokaryotic cells have no nucleus.
Where do the different cells put waste that doesn’t leave through the cell membrane?
Animal cells put waste in the lysosome, plant cells put waste in vacuoles, and bacteria digests the waste.
What do vesticles do?
They carry materials throughout the cell.
What does the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) do?
It makes lipids, hormones, and proteins.
What do lysosomes look like?
Small compartments filled with digestive enzymes.
What different cell membranes/cell walls does each cell have?
Animal cells have a cell membrane, plant cells have a cell membrane and cell wall, and bacteria cells have 1 to 2 cell membranes.
Where do plant cells get most of their ATP from?
Chloroplasts, which get the materials from the sun.
What do Ribosomes do?
They are part of transcription and make proteins.
What is the cytoskeleton?
Long fibers that give the cell shape and stability, keeping the organelles in place.
