8.3 Study Guide Flashcards
What is the enhancer?
What are the exons?
Sequences present in mRNA.
What are the Introns?
Pieces of RNA that will be spliced out and removed.
What happens in the initiation?
The TF (transcription factor) binds to enhancement regions and attacks RNA pol to copy genes to mRNA.
What happens in termination?
The termination sequence is recognized and cut. Poly A tail is added to RNA. The longer the tail=longer the mRNA is in the cytoplasm=more protein can be made.
What happens during alternative splicing?
Pieces are spliced differently because of different RNA or combinations of exons.
How are base pairing rules different with RNA than DNA?
Instead of A, RNA uses U.
What happens in transcription?
DNA is replicated into RNA, which makes protein.
