2.3 Study Guide Flashcards
How does a population age chart show the populations’ growth?
If there are more people in the bars of the age range of 0-14 than there are in the bars 15-44, then there is a positive population growth. If both groups are around the same, then the population is staying about the same. If there are more in the older groups than the younger groups, then the population growth is negative.
What is in the first stage of demographic transitioning?
There are high birth rates as well as high death rates.
What happens in stage 2 of demographic transitioning?
The death rates falls rapidly and the birth rate stays high. The population increases rapidly.
Which stage includes a slower-falling death rate, a falling birth rate, and a slower increase in population?
Stage 3
What happens in stage 5 of demographic transitioning?
There is a low birth and low death rate, with little to no change in population.
What happens in stage four of demographic transitioning?
There is a low birth rate and low death rate and the population increase if falling, then slows to a stop.
What is something bad that happens when a country develops?
The ecological footprint and CO2 emissons increase, negatively impacting the environment.
What is one factor that isn’t impacted by a country’s development?
Annual freshwater withdrawals
What stage does a country normally reach its populations’ carrying capacity?
Sometime in stage 4.
Can a country’s population decrease in stage 5?
Yes, it can, though it stays at relatively the same amount.
