7.1 Muscles Flashcards
What are muscles made up of?
Made up of bundles of muscle fibers.
Why do muscle fibers have several nuclei? What is this called?
A single nucleus could not effectively control the metabolism therefore several nuclei are needed. Therefore muscle fibers are multinucleate.
Tendon: What is each end of the muscle connected to?
Each end of the muscle is connected to bone.
What are muscles made up of?
Bundles of muscle fibres bound by connective tissue.
What is inside a muscle fibre?
Cyptoplasm containing mitochondira.
What does each muscle fibre consist of?
Numerous fibrils?
What are mycofibrils composed of?
Repeated contractile units called sacromeres.
What are the two times of protein molecules?
Action and Myosin
What are thin filaments mainly composed of? What are thick filaments mainly composed of?
Thin filaments: Protein Action
Thick filaments: Protein Myosin
When proteins overlap what appearance do they give?
A striated appearance. (Regular arrangment of sacromeres)
What band do Actin filaments occur in?
A light band.
What band do Actin and Myosin filaments occur in?
Dark band.
What band does only myosin occur in?
Intermediate colored band.
