6.4.1 Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Define Homeostasis
A
Maintenance of a constant internal enviroment
2
Q
Define negative feedback
A
- A change to the normal/optimal level that initiates a response
- Of corrective measures, which reduces the affect, acting against the change
3
Q
Define positive feedback
A
- A change to the normal/optimal level that intitates a response
- That leads to the production of more hormones to further deviate from normal/optimal levels
4
Q
Explain why temperature control in homeostasis is important
A
- Body temperature is optimum temperature for enzymes
- High heat denatures enzymes, by altering their tertiary structure, and shape of active site
- Low heat reduces kinetic energy of molecules
- So fewer collisions
- So fewer enzyme-substrate complexs form
- Reaction slowed
