1
Q

How does temperature affect enzymes?

A

More temp = more kinetic energy

More kinetic energy = particles move faster so more successful collisions between enzyme + substrate

Q

How do increasing temperatures denature enzymes?

A
  • At higher temps. bonds holding enzyme vibrate
  • As temp increases, bonds vibrate more until bonds strain then break
  • Broken bonds = change in shape of tertiary structure

Q

What does it mean when an enzyme denatures?

A

Active site changes so shape no longer complementary to substrate so substrate can’t fit = enzyme no longer a catalyst
