3.3 Flashcards
What are the trophic levels?
Levels that add order to a food chain
Ordered as follows:
Producers,
Primary Consumers,
Secondary Consumers,
Tertiary Consumers,
Quaternary Consumers.
What is the difference between an autotroph and a heterotroph?
Autotrophs are organisms that make their own food while heterotrophs need to get their food from a source, usually flowing back to autotrophs.
What are the differences between an herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, and detritivore?
Herbivores are animals that only eat plants, carnivores are animals that only eat other animals, omnivores are animals that eat both plants and other animals, and detritivores are animals that only dead organisms
What is the difference between a trophic cascade diagram and a food web diagram.
Trophic cascade diagrams show the organisms in a pyramid style, better showing how one organism affects another. Food web diagrams show the organisms in a more connect-the-dots-like style, and better shows the flow of energy from one organism to the next.
What predictions can you make with the information from a trophic cascade diagram?
Otters eat sea urchins which eat kelp
I can predict that the otters positively affect the kelp as the otters control the sea urchin population.
