Definition
The process which involves sport as a worldwide business, including worldwide media coverage, freedom of movement for players and spectators and corporate brands, leading to greater exposure of people to sport.
Freedom of movement: players
National and international laws allow the free movement of people
Freedom of movement: travel
Improved and increased transport so competitors and spectators can travel overseas regularly for fixtures
Freedom of movement: training camps
Teams can travel to training camps overseas e.g. high altitude training/ warm weather training
Freedom of movement: tours
Teams go on pre-season tours to raise their profile to new audiences e.g. Premier League Clubs touring USA

Positive influences of media:
- More awareness for participation
- More publicity/ coverage for a sport
- More exposure to a sport
- See role models
- Increased spectatorship
- More money for sport/ players
- Increased club revenue/ player wages
- Improves standards of play
- Development of grassroots players and new facilities
Negative influence of media:
- Can invade privacy
- Can misinform
- Might focus on bigger sports only - minority sports
- Could damage reputation of sports/ performers
- Too much money could lead to drug addictions
- Males have more coverage than females
- Discrepancies between clubs
- Greater scheduling control by media companies
