Prepare how?
Eat a healthy balanced diet and maintain a healthy weight.
Do moderate regular exercise, increase physical activity if necessary but avoid extra intensive work outs.
Rest and sleep well.
Prevent infections.
Discuss your medicines with your Self Care Pharmacist, doctor or midwife.
Drink plenty of fluids each day, especially water.
Keep your caffeine intake low. Caffeine is found in coffee, tea and cola and should be limited to two cups of coffee per day or four cups of tea.
Do not smoke, do not drink alcohol and do not use recreational drugs. Smoking should be stopped before pregnancy by both parents.
ESSENTIAL SUPPLEMENTS During pregnency?
FOLIC ACID ( or folate) : 0.8mg daily is recommended for all women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
IODINE: take 150 micrograms daily during pregnancy as more iodine is required during pregnancy. Iodine is needed for the developm
NAUSEA AND VOMITING during pregnency advice?
This is common during early pregnancy and is often the first sign of pregnancy, resolving about week 12 to week 20. In most cases it can be managed with diet and lifestyle.
If you do get nausea and vomiting then try the following
1) eat as well as you can when you are not nauseous
2) eat regularly, choosing smaller meals or snacks
3) have less hot, spicy food or high fat content food
4) try to rest more and remove as much stress as possible. If you have more severe symptoms, you may require treatment with medicines and will need to see your doctor
