What ?
Breaks surface of your mouth
Nerves are close to the surface thats why feels painful
Why?
accidentally biting
bumping with toothbrush
burning with a hot drink
dentures rough edge on a tooth
stress
certain medicines
nutrient deficiency, such as vitamin B12, iron or folic acid
when you are quitting smoking
a virus, such as herpes simplex (cold sore) or varicella zoster
Treatment?
Pain Relief: Paracetamol
Mouthwashes: Antiseptic mouthwashes Clorohexidine (kills bacteria) Twice daily
Protective Paste: Orabase paste. Will work like a protective covering. Prevent irritation from food and drink and ease discomfort.
Local Analgesics: Use to get relief Pain. Choline salicylate dental gel (eg, Bonjela® and Ora-sed®) may relieve discomfort. (Before applying the gel, wipe the surface free of mucus, then apply a small amount of gel (cover the tip of the index finger) and rub into affected area not more often than every 3 hours. Avoid getting it on your dentures – wait at least 30 minutes after use before putting dentures back in.)
Most mouth ulcers get better on their own within 1–2 weeks
Antiseptic mouthwashes: warm salt water
How to use?
Before applying the gel, wipe the surface free of mucus, then apply a small amount of gel (cover the tip of the index finger) and rub into affected area not more often than every 3 hours.
Avoid getting it on your dentures – wait at least 30 minutes after use before putting dentures back in.
Self Care?
use a soft toothbrush to reduce further damage
rinse your mouth with a warm salt-water mouthwash (see below)
avoid spicy foods or acidic food
avoid chewing gum
Avoid hot drinks
take paracetamol for pain relief.
