What?
Rash in the nappy area,sore
Fungal or yeast
Treatment?
Berrier creams helps to protect from moisture example,
Barrier cream:Ex: Zinc and castor oil ointment, White soft paraffin ointment,Bepanthen ointment,Sudocrem
Choose the mild strength steroid and antifungal cream to treat nappy rash
Antifungal Cream: Miconazole OD-BD up to 10d- 14d after the rash has cleared, (to make sure all the fungus has gone.)
Steroids: Mild Steroids to reduce inflammation can be used ex: od- bd up to 7 days.
Avoid?
Baby wipes – if you need to use baby wipes choose brands with minimal or no fragrance and that are for sensitive skin
Soaps, bubble bath and lotions
Plastic pants
Talcum powder.
Self Care?
Nappy changing,
Using a barrier cream or ointment after the antifungal cream/steroid cream.
Giving nappy-free time and choosing quality disposable nappies or
Taking good care of cloth nappies.
Red flags?
baby develops a fever (high temperature)
If rash does not clear after treatment
If baby is extreme discomfort
If the rash appears infected
No improvement within 7 days
