What?
Small insects lives on scalp.
Suck blood from the scalp.
Who can get head lice?
Anyone. Common
Catching lice has nothing to do with poor hygiene.
How do people get head lice?
From head to head
Hhair to hair contact with who already has head lice.
when children play or sleep together and their heads touch.
Head lice crawl from hair to hair.
Head lice only survive on humans and die quickly within 24hrs they are not on the head.
What signs/symptoms can indicate someone has head lice?
Itch, discomfort on the head
Close contact with someone who has/had head lice.
Where on the scalp could you look to identify head lice?
Near the roots of the hair follicle (bottom), Warm areas behind ears and top on scalp.
Treatment?
Chemical Methods: Dimethicone 5 and 10% both fully subsidized in New Zealand
Physical Methods: Nit(a fine-toothed comb) combs can be used to comb wet hair to help remove the lice and their eggs embedded in the hair.
How to apply ?
Choose one and check the instructions for use.
Put on dry hair
Cover the hair right to the ends
Use enough lotion to completely moisten the hair and scalp
Comb the hair with an ordinary comb to make sure the lotion covers all the hair evenly
Leave the lotion to dry naturally
Wait at least 8 hours before washing the hair with your normal shampoo
There’s no need to cover the hair with a wrap
Head lice can’t move within a minute of being covered with 4 percent (4%) dimethicone lotion
You can use a fine-tooth head lice comb to remove remaining eggs after treatment and any dead lice which were not washed out - this step is not essential
Repeat in 7 days
