19. Attention Flashcards

1
Q

Perceptual Experience

A
  • Perceptual experience in response to a stimulus event is a response of the
    whole person.
  • The information provided when your sensory receptors are stimulated, your
final perception depends on who you are, whom you are with, and what you
    expect, want, and value.

4
Q

why are qualitative measurements imp

A

Important in practice, given that perception is not reliably objective
(i.e. perceptions of pain will not always ‘make sense’ from a medical
perspective, but such self-reports are important nonetheless)

A

Absolute thresholds: the minimum intensity required for the senses to

Q

list and explain the 5 quantitative measurements (hint: senses)

A

It’s the least amount needed of smith in order to sense it

  • vision: seeing a candle in a dark room
  • Hearing a nearby watch ticking. In a quiet room
  • taste: tasting a teaspoon of sugar in 2 gallons of water
  • smell: smelling a drop of perfume in a small home
  • touch: feeling the pressure of a fly fall on ur cheek

Q

Explain simons and levins study further

A

Experimenters look similar but not identical
Some obvious differences that are slight like one had a white collar peaking through and the other didn’t
