1.3.3 Ventral Forearm Flashcards
What joins the radius and ulna in the forearm?
interosseus membrane
What are the two compartments of the forearm? What divides them?
Ventral and dorsal divided by interosseus membrane
What are the two demarcations b/t the compartments of the forearm?
subcutaneous border of the ulna, posteriorly
radial artery anteriorly to laterally
Where do the muscles in the anterior compartment orginate?
the medial epicondyle and the epicondyle ridge of humerus
Where is the fleshy masses of the anterior forearm muscles?
Proximally
What are the five muscles in the superficial group?
Pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris (Pass, Fail, Pass, Fail)
Little deeper: flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
All cross the elbow joint
What are the three muscles of the deep group?
flexor digitorum profundus, flexor pollicis longus, pronator quadratus
DO NOT CROSS THE ELBOW
What is the main innervator of the muscles of the anterior forearm?
median nerve
Name this muscle
Pronator teres
Where does the flexor carpi radialis insert?
2nd metacarpal (index finger base)
What innervates the flexor carpi ulnaris?
Ulnar nerve
Where does the flexor carpi ulnaris insert?
pisiform, hook of hamate and base of 5th metacarpal bones
In what way can the flexor carpi ulnaris move the hand/wrist?
Flex and adduct
What does the flexor digitorum superficilias flex?
The proximal interphalangeal joint
What does the flexor digitorum profundus flex?
The distal interphalangeal joint
