Winter: Yin within Yin
Spring: Yang within Yin
Five Aspects of Yin Yang Relationship
- Opposition:
- Interdependence:
- Mutual Consuming:
- Inter- transformation:
- Infinite divisibility:
Opposition:
Nature: fire/water, light/dark, sun/moon, immaterial/material, energy/matter;
Medicine: Exterior/Interior, Heat/Cold, Excess/Deficiency, Restless/Quiet, Rapid changes/Lingering, Acute/Chronic…
Interdependence
Medicine: yin organs depend on yang organs to produce Qi and Blood。 The yang organs depend on the yin organs for their nourishment deriving from Blood and Essence.
Mutual-Consuming
(quantity) Medicine: Excess of yin damages yang, excess of yang damages yin. Consumption of yang leads to excess of yin. consumption of yin leads to excess of yang.
Inter-transformation
(quality) Nature: Day turns into night;
Medicine: cold transforms into heat; excess heat can lead to yin deficiency; deficiency of spleen yang can lead to excess of dampness.
Infinite Divisibility
Medicine: front of body is yin, but chest is yang compared to abdomen etc.
