精气神血津液 Three Treasures and Body Fluids Flashcards
basics of Essence, Qi, Spirit, Blood and body fluids
Function of Essence
1: Growth, reproduction and development
2: Basis of Kidney Qi
3: Producer of Marrow
4: Basis of constitutional strength
5: Basis for the “three treasures”
Flow of Essence According to Neijing: Women
7: kidney qi becomes abundant
14: dew of heaven (menstruation) arrives,
21: kidney essence peaks, wisdom teeth out growth is utmost
28: tendons and bones become strong, hair grows longest
35: yang ming begins to weaken
42: three yang channels are weak, face darkens hair begins to turn greay
49: ren is empty, chong depleted, dew of heaven dries up, earth passage is not open.
Flow of Essence According to Neijing: Men
8: boys kidney energy is abundant, hair and teeth grow
16: kidney energy is even more abundant, dew of heaven (sperm) arrives, essences is luxuriant and flowing can produce a child
24: kidney energy peaks, tendons and bones are strong, wisdom teeth appear and growth is at it’s peak
32: tendons and bone are strongest, muscles full and strong
40: kidney is weakened hair begins to fall out
48: yang qi is exhausted, face dark, hair turns grey
56: liver energy is weakened, tendons can’t move, dew of heaven is dried up, kidney becomes weak
64: hair and teeth are gone
Signs of Strong Essence
Long medial cleft/philtrum, Broad Forehead/gabella, long ears and ear lobes
CLASSIFICATION OF Ql
Qing Qi + Gu Qi = Zong Qi; Zong Qi + Yuan Qi = Zhen Qi. Zhen Qi splits into Wei Qi and Ying Qi; Zangfu Qi; Zhong QI; Zheng Qi= Wei Qi + Ying Qi (zhen qi) + kidney essence
Functions of Qi CAM
- Promoting
- Warming
- Defensive
- Checking
- Activities of Qi
- Nourishing
Functions of Qi: FCM
- Transporting
- Warming
- Protecting
- Holding
- Transforming
- Rising
Qi Mechanism
LU: descending, exit and enter in cou li (also descends on right)
LV: disperses in all directions, enters and exits in sinews. (also ascends on left)
ST: descends, exits from muscles
SP: ascends, enters muscles
HT: descends, enters and exits blood vessels
KD: water ascends, qi descends, enters and exit bones.
Axis, Root and Outer Wheel
SP/ST central axis, LU and LV as outer wheel, LU descends on right, LV ascends on left. HT and KD as root HT descends and KD ascends.
Source of Blood
The Spleen sends Food-Qi upwards to the Lungs, and through the pushing action of Lung-Qi this is sent to the Heart, where it is transformed into Blood. Kidneys store Essence, which produces Marrow. This, in turn, generates bone marrow, which contributes to making Blood.
Functions of Blood
- Nourishes the Body
- Circulates with Nutritive Qi
- Moistens the body
- Houses the Mind
- Determines menstruation
Blood and Organs
HT Governs
SP Makes/ Holds
LV Stores
Qi and Blood Relationship
“血为气之母,气为血之帅” Blood is the mother of Qi; Qi is Commander of blood (Generate/Move/Hold Blood) .
Formation And Distribution of Body Fluids
Food and drink are transformed and separated by the Spleen. Some ‘clean’ fluids then go up from the Spleen to the Lungs. which spread some of them to the skin and send some of them down to the Kidneys. From the Spleen. some ‘dirty’ liquids go down to the Small Intestine where they are separated again, this time into pure and impure liquids. Following this second separation the pure fluids go to the Bladder and the impure fluids go to the Large Intestine, where some water is reabsorbed. The Bladder further transforms and separates the fluids it receives into pure and impure. The pure fluids now upwards and go to the Exterior of the body where they form sweat. The impure fluids flow downwards and are transformed into urine.
Body Fluids and Organ Relationships
LU: diffuse, SP: transform, transport, KD: transform, separate, excrete, SI: transform, transport, excrete, ST: origin of, UB: excrete
