learn the major Fu organs and their functions
GB: Stores and Excretes Bile
Receives bile from liver, stores it and excretes it; Extraordinary yang organ: Only yang organ that doesn’t open to exterior, deal with food water or waste, and stores.
GB: Controls Decisiveness
• GB makes decisions, controls courage and initiative • GB’s ‘decision making’ helps all other 11 internal Organs • Deficiency: timid or fearful, no drive.
GB: Controls the Sinews
GB provides Qi to the sinews to ensure their proper movement and agility • The Gathering (Hui) point for sinews is on the GB channels (GB34)
GB: Mental Aspect
Psychological level: initiation, courage, makes decisions, makes changes m • GB deficiency: indecision, timidity, easily discouraged • The ascending of GB Qi stimulate LV Qi (HUN) to ascend • Deficiency: depression • Excess: slightly manic • GB has an influence on the quality and length of sleep • Deficiency: awakens early in the morning, unable to fall asleep again
SI: Controls receiving and transforming
Sl receives food and drink from ST and separates clear and turbid • Clear goes to SP ; Turbid goes to Ll and UB
SI: Separates Fluids
ST impure to SI, SI separates pure and impure, pure goes to UB, impure goes to LI;
SI: Mental Aspect
Discernment: ability to distinguish relevant issues with clarity before making a decision
SJ: Mobilizes Yuan QI
Its the transformation power Qi in all zangfu, and differentiates for all channels
SJ: Controls the Transformation and Penetration of Qi
controls the entering-exiting, ascending, descending of qi in all zangfu (channel)
SJ: Controls the water passages and excretion of fluids
the official in charge of irrigation: Upper - Sweat; Middle: ST fluids; Lower- Urine
SJ: As one of the six yang organs (has form)
SJ has the function of maintaining free passage and of ‘letting out’ or excreting. U-Defensive Qi; M-Nutritive Qi; L-Fluids
SJ: As a mobilizer of yuan qi (formless)
mobilizes yuan qi emerging from the ming men to differentiate
SJ: As three divisions of the body
Upper: HT LU PC; Middle: ST SP GB; Lower: KD SI LI UB LV
SJ: Mental Aspects
Fire nature (with PC): SJ assists the Mind (Shen) and Hun (Ethereal Soul) • Wood nature (with GB): SJ assists the LV in ensuring the smooth flow of emotions
ST: Controls Receiving
ST receives food and drink and holds them down • ‘Receiving’ also has a relationship with the appetite • ST is called the ‘Great Granary’ and the ‘Sea of Food and Drink”
