Expository writing
Explains, analyzes, discusses, presents factual information.
The writing process:
- Prewriting (brainstorming, mapping)
- First Draft
- Revise
- Edit
- Publish (share)
Persuasive writing
Attempts to convince the reader of something or prove a point. Should be based on fact but may make emotional appeals.
Descriptive writing
Describes a situation, place or person so readers may visualize and experience it in their imagination.
Narrative writing
Tells a story, usually in a descriptive mode. Fiction such as novels and short stories involving characters setting and plot are typical. May also be used for nonfiction such as biographies and autobiographies.
Interpretive writing
Goes beyond description and attempts to help the reader decode and understand the meaning of events.
