What is metacognition?
Being aware of how you think and learn, understanding your knowledge, and making choices about learning or problem-solving based on that awareness
Define cognition.
Overall term for mental processes and activities in the brain.
What are the three kinds of knowledge of cognition?
- Declarative
- Procedural
- Conditional
What is Declarative metacognition?
Knowledge about ourselves as learners and Recognizing strengths and weaknesses
What is Procedural metacognition?
Knowing cognitive processes and strategies, and how to apply them
What is Conditional metacognition?
Knowledge of when or why to apply a strategy.
Define regulation of cognition
Self-directed management and control of cognitive processes.
What three aspects are key to regulation of cognition
Planning
Monitoring
Evaluation
Why should we train metacognition?
