What is theory of attachment?
The bond formed between an infant and caregiver is crucial, as it will impact their PIES and relationships across lifetime
What are the two main types of attachment?
Secure and Insecure

Explored the infants anxieties and identified different types of attachment
What is the internal working model of someone with a secure attachment?
They are lovable and others will care for them
What is the internal working model of someone with a insecure attachment?
People can’t be trusted and they’re difficult to love.
Describe the features of a secure attachment in the mother scenario
- infant shows distress when mum leaves
- avoids the stranger alone, but friendly when mother is present
- return behaviour = positive and happy
Describe the features of an ambivalent attachment in the mother scenario
- infant shows intense distress when mother leaves
- avoids and fears stranger
return behaviour = approaches mother, but will refuse contact and will push away
Describe the features of an avoidant attachment in the mother scenario
- infant shows no distress when mother leaves
- okay and interacts/plays normally with stranger
- return behaviour = little interest in mothers return
What are the two types of insecure attachment
Ambivalent and Avoidant
