Bruce frequently switched sides, making many scots question his loyalty to Scotland, give examples of this

*in 1296 he swore allegiance to Edward and joined his war against King John, then in 1297 he then abandoned Edward and his father and joined Scottish resistance alongside the bishops of Glasgow and St Andrews. In 1302 he goes back to supporting Edward I after abandoning the Guardianship hoping he will be rewarded with kingship once the english have defeated Scottish resistance

He was a usurper in their eyes, as they still believed John Balliol was the legitimate king

A

He murdered his rival John Comyn for the throne, in a church - SACRILEGE this was very distasteful and caused him so be excommunicated
