Balliol: puppet, weak or unlucky?

John Balliol was a 4th son, he never expected to take power, thus it can be said he wasn’t ready to take the throne.

He had no choice by to do what Edward wanted because Edward had a huge army and John Balliol accepted him as overlord therefore what he says goes.

Reasons for why John Balliol was seen as unlucky.

In the past England and Scotland have had mostly friendly relations and England have never that Brutal. Therefore it can be argued that Balliol was under the overlordship of one of the most Brutal English Kings.
If Bruce was made King he would of been in the same position.
If John was King under Edward the II it would most likely be a different story.
