What problems did Edward face with his army?
Raids in October and November 1297 made supplying a large army a problem.
Desertions were common
Supplies were scarce after Wallace’s scorched earth in the North
Supply ships were delayed by bad weather
Near starvation of army at Kirkilston
Welsh were given wine to raise their morale but this lead to a brawl which had to be put down forcibly leaving 80 welsh killed and there were rumours welsh wanted to join the Scots.

He withdraws towards Edinburgh to resupply his army.
