-a rare disease resulting from bacterial infection that leads to malabsorption from the intestine

A
-Tropheryma whipplei (a gram -ve bacterium spread by faecal oral route)

what are the symptoms of Whipple disease?
A
ITS A MULTISYSTEM DISEASE
- weight loss
- diarrhoea
- steatorrhoea
- abdominal distention
- arthritis
- fever
- nutritional deficiency symptoms

investigations for Whipple disease?
A
-endoscopy with tissue biopsy with T. whipplei present

management of Whipple disease?
A
IV ceftriaxone for 2 weeks, then cotrimoxazole for 1 year
MUST FOLLOW UP INCASE OF RELAPSE
