- overcrowded areas
- poor hygiene
- gay men (hep A= anal)
what causes acute viral hepatitis?
Hep A, B and E
presentation of acute viral hepatitis?
- abdominal pain
- nausea/vomiting
- jaundice
- darrhoea
how to diagnose acute hepatitis?
- marked raised ALT and AST (often >1000)
- bilirubin may be elevated
- relatively normal Alk Phos/gamma GT
who is Hep A most common in?
children
how to diagnodr Hep A?
clotted serology for HAV IgM
how is Hep B transmitted?
- sex
- blood born
- mother to child
Hep B= Breast milk, Blood, Banging
what may hep B cause?
Acute or chronic hepatitis
what is present in the blood of all infectious individuals with Hep B?
HBsAg (surface antigen)
what is usually present on highly infectious individuals with Hep B?
HBeAg (e antigen)
how to control Hepatitis A?
- hygiene
- prophalaxis
- peg interferon injections given in combination with ravabarin tablets
how to manage acute Hepatitis B?
- vaccine
- rest
- over counter pain killers
- metoclopramide to make you feel less sick
