Week 9 - Subtalar joint Flashcards
Subtalar joint is made up of two joints, name them and what are their joint classifications and shape.
Talocalcaneal joint: synovial (plane shape)
Talocalcanealnavicular joint: synovial (ball & socket shape)
What movements occur at the subtalar joint?
Inversion and eversion
Ligament that runs between the talus and calcaneal sinus and which facets does it divide?
Facet = articulation surface (remember the talus has multiple)
Interosseous talocalcaneal ligament, dividing the posterior and middle talocalcaneal facet
How many facets does the subtalar joint have?
3, anterior, middle and posterior facets
Is it possible to palpate all of the posterior lateral subtalar joint? and why?
No, the structure that prevents this is the calcaneal tendon.
What axis does inversion and eversion occur around?
A diagonal axis
Subtalar joint ligaments
A lot between the talus and inferior bones (navicular, calcaneum, cuniforms, cuboid)
What does the interosseus talocalcaneal ligament do?
Divides the STJ in half, very strong and keeps talus and calcaneum bonded together
What is the sinus tarsi?
Osseous tunnel that runs from lateral to medial side of foot, between the talus and calcaneum. It is lined with synovium and the interosseous ligament sits inside it.
3 types of ankle joint alignment
Typical, pes valgus pronation eversion, pes varus supination inversion
What Q-angle would occur at the knee joint if there was foot pronation?
Valgus
