Week 14 Lectures Flashcards
What are hyper palatable foods?
Engineered food that enhances sweetness and saltiness. It is high fat, sugar, sodium, carbs and is linked with obesity.
What is glucose?
Glucose (blood sugar) is energy used by organisms
and levels are regulated by the insulin hormone
What is feedback?
A stimulus generated by a response that controls the organism who generated that response.
What is an example of feedback?
Drinking soda produces a glucose spike and that spike generate visual feedback.
Feedback is a stimulus that controls subsequent response.
What is self control?
Any response intentionally made by an organism to control its own future response or consequence of that response.
What is control deprivation?
Alter stimuli that influences states of drive. An example is satiate with celery before ordering dessert or depriving sleep the night before long flight.
What is control access variable?
Alter the setting where a response can occur and limit access/time/amount to an object
What is control sensory variables?
Alter the sensory effect of a stimuli. Such as changing the flavor(sweet to sour)
or make alcohol use NAUSEATING or foul odor on food.
What is control arousal variable?
Alter stimuli to evoke arousal. Such as
grotesque war story before meal and romance movie before dinner date
What is control reinforcement variables?
Presenting rewarding stimuli upon operant response
Cupcake if >10,000 steps per day or soda if glucose in range 99% of week
What is control chemical variable?
Use chemical stimuli to alter response. Such as stimulants to increase response strength or Ozempic to decrease appetite
