What is nicotine?
A chemical stimulus that stimulates release of dopamine in the brain and induces pleasure, alertness, and energy
What is an aversive stimulus?
Change in the local environment that stimulates sense organs with the consequence to increase avoidance responses
What is negative reinforcement?
Behavior is STRENGTHENED by removing an aversive stimulus. Urge(wanting to smoke) symptoms are aversive and smoking offers escape urge.
What is nicotine replacement therapy?
NRT is a chemical stimulus replacing smoked nicotine to aid in cessation.
What are some methods used in NRT?
Methods include gum, patch, and lozenge
What is the purpose of Walker 2014?
The purpose was to test cytisine medicine is as effective as NRT in smokers. The main outcome was smoking abstinence at 1 month follow up.
What is the purpose of Nudge Ch. 9?
The purpose was to reveal how defaults can be used to nudges to have long term impact(savings) and employers commonly set saving defaults to a target date fund
What is the purpose of Werner Ch. 11?
To identify malnutrition and related illnesses and offer strategies to eat well
