Week 12 Lectures Flashcards
What is the order of aversive stimuli responses?
aversive stimulus>avoidance behavior> organism relief
What happens after the events of an aversive stimulus?
Increased strength of this same avoidant response in the future
What is a rewarding stimulus?
Change in the local environment that stimulates sense organ response and has consequences to increase approach behavior
What factors do rewards reinforce?
Chemical factors and gain factors
What are some chemical factors?
dopamine, serotonin, endorphins
What are gain factors?
Material resources(gain rewards), social status, positive self talk
Behavior> rewarding stimulus?
This increases the strength of the same response in the future
What is positive reinforcement?
Behavior is STRENGTHENED by presenting a rewarding stimulus and after an organism performs the behavior
What is approach behavior?
Any response to gain the rewarding stimulus
What is operant control?
The intentional use of a rewarding stimulus to modify an organism’s behavior
What comes after operant control?
Results in altering the type amount, intensity, and accuracy of a response
What is reward schedule?
To arrange a scenario where response and reward are made contingent and the rewarding stimulus is given contingent on a specified organism response
What does response depend on(reinforcement dependency)?
- Value of reward
- difficulty of the required response
- Degree of organism depravation
- Competing stimuli in local environment
What is true about rewarding stimuli?
Organism are sensitive to rewarding stimuli are used to reinforce behavior
What is true about operant control?
It is a method of applying positive reinforcement to modify behavior
