Wave Interactions Flashcards
What is a Reflection?
The bouncing back of a wave that meets a surface.
What is Diffraction?
A wave that bends around an edge.
What is Refraction?
The bending of waves as they change mediums.
What is Interference?
The combination of 2+ waves of the same frequency that result in one single wave.
What is the process of combining the crests/troughs of two interfering waves?
This is called the theory of superstition.
What is Constructive Interference?
When two interfering waves add up and make a larger amplitude.
What is Destructive Inference?
When two interfering waves collide and decrease amplitude.
How is a beat made?
A beat is the interference of sound waves.
What is a Standing Wave?
These are formed when a wave is reflected at the boundary of a medium.
What is a Node?
A point that has no vibration.
What is an Antinode?
A point of maximum vibration.
