Magnetism from Electrical Currents Flashcards
What is the Right-Hand Rule?
If you imagine holdin a wire with your thumb upwards facing the positive current, the direction in which your fingers curl is the direction of the magnetic field.
What is a Solenoid?
A wire with an electrical current in it.
What is an Electromagnet?
A coil with a soft iron core that acts as a magnet when electricity is sent through it.
What is Electron Spin?
A property of electrons, all electrons spin and create a tiny magnetic field.
What is a Galvanometer?
A device that measures current in ammeters and voltage in voltmeters.
What is a Domain?
A small region in a material where magnetic atoms rotate to align with other magnetic fields.
What is an Electrical Motor?
A device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
