What is a Computer?
A machine that can receive data, perform high-speed calculations or logical operations, and output the results.
What was the first Electronic Computer?
It was called ENIAC, and it was made during World War II.
What are the four basic functions of a Computer?
Input, Storage, Processing, and Output.
What is the form of a Computer’s Input?
Binary Code.
What is Binary Code?
A form of data where numbers/letters/etc are put in groups of eight bits and binary looks like a string of 0’s and 1’s.
How do Computers store data?
Using Hard-Disk Drives.
What is a Hard-Disk Drive?
A device that contains a disk, which data is written to as storage.
What is RAM?
Random-Access Memory, a form of memory contained on microchips.
What is Magnetic Media?
A type of disk where the disks are coated with magnetizable substance.
What is ROM?
Read-Only Memory, a memory device where the data can be read but not changed.
What is Optical Media?
Discs where the information is read by a laser light, the two types are CDs and DVDs.
What is Hardware?
Any physical component in a computer.
What is Software?
Any Computer Program.
What is an Operating System?
A software that controls a computer’s activities.
What is CPU?
The Central Processing Unit of a computer.
