Conservation of Energy Flashcards
What’s Energy Transformation?
The change of energy between potential and kinetic forms.
What is an example of Potential to Kinetic?
A car going down hill, the energy gradually becomes Kinetic until the slope ends.
What is an example of Kinetic to Potential?
A cart going up a hill, it is preparing to go down again so the Kinetic gradually changes to Potential.
How is transformation shown in the flight of a ball?
A ball curves during flight because gravity changes the Kinetic Energy to Potential Energy.
What’s the law of Conservation of Energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed.
Where does some of the energy go?
When a cart moves on a track for example, it can’t go as high up a hill as the previous hill. Air resistance and friction are some of the factors that decrease the energy for movment of an object.
What’s Efficiency?
It’s a measure of how much useful work something can do.
What’s the Efficiency Equation?
Efficiency=Useful Work Output/Work Input
How do Machines work if Energy leaks away all the Time?
We give machines energy input so that they constantly work. Unfortunately, this means that perpetual motion machinery is impossible.
