Continental climate, hot summers, cold winters, shorter growing season. 11 million acres, over 1/4 of the state. Encompasses most of WA’s AVAs save Columbia Gorge, Puget Sound and part of Lewis-Clark Valley.

Washington AVA w/in the Columbia Valley AVA. Encompasses 3 sub AVAs: Rattlesnake Hills, Snipes Mountain and Red Mountain. The state’s 1st AVA in 1983, accounts for 1/3 of production

Washington AVA w/in the Columbia Valley and Yakima Valley AVAs. Warmest AVA in the State. Tannic CS, also Merlot, Syrah. Smallest and most densely planted
