- Main aspect only
- No
EXAM…….. What indication do you require at Platforms 2, 3 and 4 for working services towards:
1. New Street?
2. Walsall/Bescot?
- Main aspect and “S” in the theatre box (for Up Stour)
- Main aspect and “H” in the theatre box (for Up Heath Town)
EXAM…….. Describe the shunt move from Platform 1 to Platform 4 at the North end of Wolverhampton station (past where we would normally ever go):
1. With a 323
2. With a 350 with 4 carriages? Why?
- Once the signal on Platform 1 clears, move forwards and stop once your train is fully clear of the Ground Position Light signal WS1300….. then change ends and wait for the Ground Position Light signal to clear with the theatre box route indicator showing 4
- You must speak to the signaller before departing from Platform 1….. to ensure that the next main line signal (BW 4301) is clear at Wolverhampton North Junction……. This is because the “4” car stop Board is situated BEYOND THE MAIN LINE SIGNAL. Then, stop behind the Ground Position Light signal WS1300….. change ends and wait for the signal to clear into Platform 4

2. What coping strategies could you adopt?
3. What is there on approach to the signal that acts as a visual aid to judge the distance to the signal?
- Difficult to judge distance to the signal in the tunnel environment…… short distance between signals in the Tunnel…… could be fumes in tunnel……. being temporarily blinded by headlights of a train coming the other way (I.e. a Voyager)….. downhill gradient going into New Street
- Reduce speed well before the signal so that you are only doing about 10mph at the AWS
- Signal countdown marker boards
