When should headlights and/or marker lights be on?
On a:
Running line
Moving on any line or in a siding
Propelled in the right direction
(No headlight in depots, yards, sidings when not moving, or when stabled on a running line)

You must not enter a goods line unless….
- Arrangements for you to do so have been published in the WON
- In an emergency and authorised by the signal box supervisor
When can AWS be fully isolated? (3)
EBA even though you have cancelled the horn
Intermittent or successive failures with AWS
If train stops directly over AWS magnet (isolate AWS, change ends and set back, change ends again and restore AWS)
What should you immediately do after shunting movement, and what 4 things must you be clear of?
Secure train
Make sure clear of: the running line; facing points; fouling points; derailers
What is a Multi SPAD signal?
Signal that has been passed at danger twice or more in the last 5 years
Basic principal of signalling systems?
One train in any one block section at any one time
What is an operational risk? (7)
SPAD
Station fail to call
Station stop short
Station over run
Derailment
Collision
Train dispatch irregularity
What is professional driving?
Attitude, behaviour and train driving techniques which minimises the risk of driver error
Triangle of fire
Heat
Oxygen
Fuel
How are SLW movements in the WRONG direction controlled?
Handsignals (I.e. to put you back on to the normal line)
Shunting signals or Ground Position Light signals
Main aspect (if provided) to return you to the proper line
If there is none of the above then the Pilot MUST travel with you and stop you at the exit point. You would then phone the signaller for permission to go back oto the proper line
Max speed over broken rails?
5mph
Different types of cab passes
Green with red band - Instruct/assess drivers, 3 guests
Blue with red band - non-driving manager, 2 guests
Yellow - PTS competent
Purple - Instruct/assess Guards
Black - Route learning
Pink - Newly qualified driver, 12months
What is a possession limit board?
Identifies the boundary of a possession and can also be used if line blockage
What is an Off Indicator?
Located on platforms, allows the Guard to check signal aspect before giving 2 on the bell buzzer
What is a RA indicator?
If Lit = station duties are complete, train is secure and safe to proceed. Signal has to be a proceed for this to be lit
Points indicator:
Yellow =
Red, or No light =
Yellow = Points are fitting correctly
Red, or No light = Stop and contact signaller
After examining the line, what do you tell the signaller?
If the line is clear or not
Any other relevant information
Defective AWS or TPWS and you have a CP with you (Linespeed), what are the driver duties in regards to signals and speed restrictions?
Running commentary, call out signal aspects and speed restrictions and explain what positive actions you are taking (I.e. applying brakes)
Fatality and body parts are only visible to the driver of a passing train, when can we run trains? (2)
If the driver is made aware, and he is happy to run the train
Extinguished a fire and you can continue, what would you do with the passengers in the affected vehicle, and how can you reduce the chances of the fire starting up and spreading again?
Move passengers into an unaffected vehicle and leave a CP in there to put out the fire if it starts up again
