T3 Flashcards
When can you move a train again whilst working under Permissive Working….. when your train has come to a stand? (3)
Coupling or Uncoupling is taking place
If signaller gives permission (don’t forget to tell the signaller when the movement is complete)
If signal is cleared for the movement
Moving a train before station work is complete (signal is red)….. what do you need and what do you need to do? (And what do you do when the movement is complete?)
Get permission from signaller to move towards the signal at danger
Tell Guard and PIC of dispatch you have permission
Tell signaller when movement complete
Where would you place the detonators on a multi-track line if you have an accident (and can’t get in touch with the signaller or he can’t offer signal protection)?
On every obstructed line 1 ¼ miles in the direction of approaching trains
After an accident, once the signaller has told you that signal protection has been provided, what must you still then do?
Ask the signaller if you still need to lay TCOCs……
If you do, then:
TCOC on all obstructed lines
TCOC on your line if derailed
Following a collison, if WMT Control tells you it is safe to proceed, are you then allowed to take power and proceed?
No….. you have to tell the signaller what Control said and seek permission to move
If you have collided with something on the railway and think the damage has increased the width or height of the train, who do you need to speak to and what will they tell you?
Speak to WMT Control. They will tell you if it safe to proceed or to stay put and await a Rolling Stock Technician to inspect it
If you have collided with something on the railway, what do you need to do regarding the integrity of the train?
Stop train and check for damage which might affect its safe movement
If your train has sustained a heavy impact what needs to be done before it can be returned into service or moved?
Not allow it into service until a Rolling Stock Technician has inspected it
If you are early on the scene of a serious incident, what is something you need to do regarding the cab and preserving evidence?
Lock all cab doors
Why would a TSR be implemented?
Weather conditions
Engineering works
Signal Faults
Faults with Level Crossing
Fault on rail
Fault on train
What is the definition of a Permissable Speed?
The maximum allowed running speed on that line for that location, as set out in Table A of the Sectional Appendix
What will be displayed in a route indicator?
Letters and numbers that identify the set track
Describe a SPATE Board
Yellow square with a black diagonal line
Who can remove a “Not to be Moved” board
ONLY the person who put it on
What are the two types of calls that a driver can make on the GSM-R?
Point to Point (with the signaller)
Group (Emergency call, shunting, Assistance Protection)
On the GSM-R what will display when you are correctly connected to the network?
GSMR-GB
What is a single track referred to?
One train working line
Two ways of controlling a normal single line?
Token
Tokenless track circuit system
What else could be indicated when you receive a cleared subsidiary semaphore signal?
C for calling on
S for shunt ahead
Definition of a controlled signal
Operated by the signaller, some of which may be set by the signaller to work automatically
3 types of main aspect colour lights….
LED 2 aspect
3 Aspect
4 Aspect
What operational messages can be sent from the cab radio? (1 by the driver and 1 by the signaller)
Standing at signal (driver)
Wait (signaller)
Biggest risk when dealing with TPWS activation?
Resetting and continuing (removing the key which resets the TPWS fault)
Timescale to carry out hot axle box examination?
10 minutes
(If you haven’t checked the axle box before this time, max speed is 20mph)
