A

Platforms 11 and 12 (I.e. coming back from Redditch/Bromsgrove via Holliday Street Tunnel)
(However there are mid signals in the Down Direction I.e. if you’re coming from NS South Tunnel)

Number 2 siding = between platforms 7 and 8

Before you enter NS South or NS North tunnel, the signal could be a single yellow…. where would you be prepared to stop at New Street? As you approach this, what might you see that means you do not stop there but instead you would carry on?

A

At the mid platform signal (except for Platforms 11 and 12 coming back from Holliday Street Tunnel as there are no mid signals in this direction)
You may get Associated Position lights for Permissive Working…. proceed at Caution and be prepared to stop short of any obstruction, signal, train etc

If you are coming from Wolverhampton and the last signal before NS is a single yellow and Platform 5 comes up in the Theatre Box…… what are you thinking?

A

That the platform for the mid signal is really short and if you are more than a 3 car then the Unit would not fit….. you would end up having to 2-2 the Guard at NS so he doesn’t open the doors, and speak to the signaller

Sometimes the Platform staff will be showing you a white light as you approach into NS….. what are they doing this for?

A

They are basically calling you on to the point they want you to stop….. when they would then give you a red light

The risk with the move is not checking the signal has been cleared if you have stopped underneath it….. strategy to avoid risk is not to rush…… if possible stop the train so you have a clear view of the signal, and always re-check signal before moving off…. always use the DRA

The signal is in an AWS gap area, and it is also located on a curve so you have limited visibility (hence the co-acting signal)
Maintain a reduced speed until you can clearly sight the signal before increasing your speed
